Derek has over 30 years of professional experience focused solely within the healthcare industry, having served as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Restructuring Officer, court-appointed Receiver, Chapter 11 Trustee, court-appoint Examiner, Director of Reimbursement, Medicare auditor, Medicare cost report preparer, forensic accountant, compliance consultant, financial auditor, and financial advisor. He has audited, managed, and consulted with all types of healthcare providers including government owned, community not-for-profit, academic, and investor-owned entities.
Some highlights of Derek’s career include:
- Serving as court-appointed receiver on numerous Seniors Living and Skilled Nursing Facilities throughout the Southeast.
- Serving as restructuring CFO of a faith-based eldercare company with a flagship 600+ bed nursing home, 2,000+ units of Seniors housing, a PACE program and an adult day care program.
- Serving as restructuring CFO of an ESOP eldercare company with more than 30 nursing homes, behavioral hospitals, hospice, and an institutional pharmacy.
- Serving as restructuring CFO of a hospital that filed for bankruptcy prior to his appointment. During his tenure, he led the section 363 sale process, conducted a forensic review into the circumstances that led to the hospital’s bankruptcy filing, repaid a million-dollar revolver over advance, which was discovered prior to his appointment.
Prior to joining HMP, Derek was a Director with Alvarez & Marsal in its New York-based healthcare practice. Before that, he was a Senior Manager with Arthur Andersen in its Atlanta-based healthcare consulting practice.
Derek is a graduate of Samford University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and is a member of numerous professional associations.
