Philadelphia, October 22, 2008—Healthcare Management Partners LLC has recruited Bruce Buchanan, Rajan Grover, M.D., and Randolph Harrison to join its fast-growing turnaround management and strategic and financial support practices. The three executives bring extensive experience in delivering major improvements at both healthy and troubled providers.

Before joining HMP as a managing director, Buchanan, 58, served as chief executive officer of Phoenix Baptist Hospital, where he turned around the distressed 236-bed teaching hospital by reducing operating costs while enhancing care quality. Buchanan led a similar turnaround of Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, including recruiting new physicians, doubling the hospital's physical space and attracted new patients. He also was president and CEO of Atlanta Medical Center and of Mercy Health System Oklahoma and its Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. Buchanan held senior management positions with Hillcrest Healthcare System and Saint Joseph Hospital and worked for Invalesco Group as an operations consultant to healthcare organizations.
Buchanan has a bachelor of arts in sociology from Princeton University, a master of business administration from George Mason University and a master of health services administration from University of Michigan. He is board-certified in healthcare management and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
As a clinical operations transformation leader for HMP, Dr. Grover, 33, has extensive experience in operations improvement, financial turnarounds, business model assessments and clinical transformation for hospitals and physician group practices. Prior to joining HMP as a senior director, Dr. Grover served as a senior manager for clinical transformation and performance improvement at ACS Healthcare Solutions, where he led projects on strategic electronic medical record (EMR) assessments, strategy and implementation as well as clinical process redesign and hospital throughput . Dr. Grover also held several management positions at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, including regional director of operations and efficiency. In India, he practiced as a family physician and managed the operations of a community hospital.
Dr. Grover holds a master of health services administration and a master of business administration from University of Alabama, Birmingham. He also has a bachelor of medicine and surgery from North Maharashtra University, India. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
With more than 30 years of experience in financial management and operations, Harrison, 53, most recently served as chief financial officer of Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruses, New Mexico. While there, he led initiatives that increased admission, proved productivity, raised revenues and enhanced Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Now an HMP senior director, Harrison spent 10 years as president of Phoenix Management Services, a provider of interim management services including strategic planning and financial analyses. At Phoenix, Harrison served as interim chief financial officer for 10 clients as well as led projects that tackled a range of operational issues.
Harrison holds a bachelor of science in health care management from the Medical College of Virginia and a master of business administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Healthcare Financial Management Association, United Way and Red Cross.
